FCT and Aga Khan Development Network launch 2nd Call of joint projects

FCT, in partnership with the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), launches the 2nd Call for the funding of joint scientific research and technological development projects, open until September 30, 2019. The Call is carried out under the Scientific and Technological Cooperation Protocol established between the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education (MCTES) and Imamat Ismaili.

This 2nd Call makes available a budget of 2.5 million euros and each project can be funded up to 250,000 euros. In 2017, the 1st Call was launched, and 16 projects were selected for funding, for a total joint FCT-AKDN investment of 4.6 million euros.

Portuguese, African and AKDN scientific and academic institutions may apply to this second call for the establishment of new initiatives and collaborations, with the aim of creating and developing research capacities in African countries.

The proposed projects should be on emerging themes in the context of Quality of Life, including: food security and biodiversity, early childhood development, education and assessment policies, habitat, sustainable energy systems and urban development, poverty reduction, resettlement of migrants, civil society and pluralism. Proposals must encourage multidisciplinary collaboration and ensure sufficient resources and duration to enable capacity building and knowledge strengthening in Portugal and Africa in these areas.
