FCT and CERN open Call IC&DT projects

The FCT and CERN (European Laboratory for Particle Physics), under the agreement established between Portugal and CERN, have opened a Call scientific research and technological development (IC&DT) projects, with applications open until 5:00 p.m. (Lisbon time) on October 15, 2021.

This Call increase national and international competitiveness in science and technology, and to strengthen the capabilities of scientific and technological institutions in the field of High Energy Physics, as well as in other areas relevant to Portuguese participation in CERN. Proposed projects must fall within the following thematic areas: Computing for particle physics; Experimental and theoretical particle and astroparticle physics; Instrumentation for particle physics; and Technologies associated with experimental particle physics.

The projects will be supported for a period of 24 months (extendable for a maximum of 12 months in duly justified cases) and a budget allocation of €2.5 million is planned. Approved projects will be fully financed by national funds through the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Higher Education, with a maximum funding limit of €240,000 per project.

The Call aimed at research teams from non-business entities in the research and innovation (R&I) system, their institutes and research and development (R&D) units, and companies of any nature and legal form, provided they are involved in IC&DT projects led by non-business entities in the R&I system. They may apply individually or in joint promotion.
