FCT launches 2nd edition of Advanced Computing Call
The Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), through its FCCN unit, announces the opening of the 2nd edition of Call Advanced Computing Projects, which aims to consolidate and strengthen the national technological and scientific system through Advanced Computing resources for Research and Innovation. The Call a collaboration with four operational centers—Minho Advanced Computing Center (MACC), Advanced Computing Laboratory of the University of Coimbra (LCA-UC), High Performance Computing of the University of Évora (HPC-UÉ), and National Distributed Computing Infrastructure (INCD)—and applications open on July 19.
The FCT, in collaboration with the four operational centers – Minho Advanced Computing Center (MACC), Advanced Computing Laboratory of the University of Coimbra (LCA-UC), High Performance Computing at the University of Évora (HPC-UÉ), and National Distributed Computing Infrastructure (INCD)—announces the opening of the second edition of this Call Advanced Computing Projects and the provision of computational resources.
The aim of Call to encourage the use of HPC and Scientific Cloud computing resources to obtain new knowledge that will enable scientific and technological advances in all fields of knowledge. These resources may be useful for simulations in areas as diverse as climate or molecular modeling, artificial intelligence, and the study of complex problems in the creation of new materials or the improvement of industrial production lines.
In this second Call, which aims to allocate 31 million CPU core-hours or vCPU-hours on platforms of the National Advanced Computing Network (RNCA), applications will be accepted in all scientific areas using High Performance Computing (HPC) and/or scientific Cloud in three distinct types:
- A0 – Experimental Access – recommended for projects with no previous experience in HPC and Scientific Cloud; limit of 15,000 CPU core-hours or vCPU-hours, maximum duration of 6 months.
- A1 – Preparatory Access – for projects with some previous experience in HPC and Scientific Cloud that require testing, benchmarking, refactoring, etc.; limit of 100,000 CPU core-hours or vCPU-hours, maximum duration of 6 months.
- A2 – Project Access – for projects with previous experience in HPC or Scientific Cloud; limit of 3,000,000 CPU core-hours or vCPU_core-hours, maximum duration 12 months.
Applications for Project Access (A2) will be open from July 19 to September 13, 2021. The remaining two accesses, A0 and A1, will be available on a rolling basis from July 19 to April 28, 2022, or until available resources are exhausted.
