(Versão Portuguesa Available Soon)

EMBL

FCT and the European Molecular Biology Laboratory(EMBL) have entered into an agreement to promote expressions of interest for Studentships of technological internships for young Portuguese graduates at the EMBL. The selected candidates will acquire training -on-the-job in the areas of competence of that international scientific organization of which FCT is a member.

Eligible candidates should hold a bachelor's degree or higher and the training areas to be attended will be those corresponding to the EMBL program domains, namely: cell and molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, biophysics, bioinformatics, genomics, optical and electron microscopy, synchrotron radiation technology, and technology workshops.

The EMBL was created with the aim of promoting molecular biology throughout Europe and has materialized into a research center of excellence for young researchers in molecular biology. It is an intergovernmental organization, created in 1974, currently representing 23 member states, two associates and three candidates. It consists of six laboratories, located in Heidelberg (Germany), Barcelona (Spain), Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK) and Rome (Italy).

This agreement reinforces the FCT's goal to support and monitor the participation of the scientific and technological community in international organizations of which Portugal is part. The resulting benefits for the scientific community include access for national teams to international scientific infrastructure, increased competitiveness of industry, access to training programs and training and Calls for scientific or management positions in the different organizations.

The internships at EMBL will enrich the FCT Technological Internships Program, which already includes Agreements with CERN, ESA and ESO, where every year young Portuguese graduates have the opportunity to acquire training up to 2 years. This year FCT also held the first Call for Studentships of Research for NASA Internships. It is expected that the application process for these internships will begin later this year.
