GBIF creates national portal
The Portuguese node of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) has launched its portal at www.gbif.pt. This platform for disseminating the activities of the national node and other network partners aims to promote the participation of national institutions and organizations in GBIF by providing access to IT tools and documentation for users and providers of biodiversity data.
Among the upcoming actions of the GBIF national node are a training session on the topic of Publishing data in GBIF with the Integrated Publishing Toolkit (IPT) on July 11, and the launch of a survey to update national information on natural history collections.
Created in December 2012 at the Institute for Scientific and Tropical Research (IICT), the GBIF national node is coordinated at the national level by researcher Rui Figueira and is supported by the FCT.
The Global Biodiversity Information Facility, established in 2001, seeks to encourage free and open access to biodiversity data via the internet through a global network of countries and organizations.
