GBIF creates national portal

The Portuguese node of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) launched its portal, at www.gbif.pt. This platform for disseminating the activities of the national node and other network partners aims to promote the participation of national institutions and bodies in GBIF, through access to computer tools and documentation for users and providers of biodiversity data.

Among the next actions of the GBIF national node are a training session on the subject of Publishing data in GBIF with Integrated Publishing Toolkit (IPT), on July 11, and the launch of a survey to update the national information on natural history collections.

Created in December 2012 at the Instituto de Investigação Científica e Tropical (IICT), the GBIF national node is coordinated at the national level by researcher Rui Figueira and is supported by FCT.

The Global Biodiversity Information Facility, established in 2001, seeks to encourage free and open access to biodiversity data via the Internet through a global network of countries and organizations.
