GENDER RESEARCH 4 COVID-19 received 145 proposals

The special support program “GENDER RESEARCH 4 COVID-19,” launched by FCT in collaboration with the Secretary of State for Citizenship and Equality and with the support of the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality (CIG), received 145 project proposals submitted by 63 entities.

This support, which corresponds to a total investment of €500,000 from national funds made available through the FCT budget, consists of an exceptional line of financing in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Its purpose is to finance research and development projects and initiatives already underway or to be developed, which enable the production and dissemination of knowledge about the gender impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, the constraints imposed by gender relations, and individual, economic, and health responses to the pandemic and their future effects.

Proposals for this special support were submitted between May 15 and June 2, and the 145 proposals received are distributed across the following lines of research: – Gender and the labor market during and after the COVID-19 crisis (43%); – COVID-19, daily life, stereotypes, and gender roles (28%); – COVID-19 and violence against women and domestic violence (29%).

Given the urgent nature of the situation, support will be given to projects that can be implemented quickly, with a maximum of 4 months or 10 months of development, and a maximum funding limit for each project of €20,000 or €40,000, respectively, for each of the durations. The selection of proposals will be based on an evaluation carried out by external experts. The results are expected to be available by June 30.

This line of funding is part of a varied set of support measures, Calls other initiatives launched this year by FCT in the fight against COVID-19: support RESEARCH 4 COVID-19, with two editions; the Call AI 4 COVID-19 R&D projects: Data Science and Artificial Intelligence in Public Administration; Gender Research 4 Covid-19; the Science 4 COVID-19portal, the increased capacity of RCTS – Science, Technology, and Society Network, which supports internet connections for the teaching and research community; strengthening of the capacity of services that ensure distance learning and teleworking in the academic and scientific community (Colibri, NAU, Educast, Videocast); and the creation of a COVID-19 page on the FCT websitewebsite, which brings together all the information that is being released, directly or indirectly related to this pandemic situation.
