Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Graduate Fellowship for a researcher in Portugal

A researcher at the Telecommunications Institute (IT) and PhD student at the University of Aveiro (UA), Alírio Boaventura received a seven thousand dollar postgraduate Studentship , becoming the first student from a Portuguese university to receive this award.

The IEEE is the world's largest organization in electrical engineering, in the category of radiofrequency and microwave(Microwave Theory and Techniques - MTT-S), and annually awards ten Graduate Fellowship Awards to recognize and fund doctoral programs in this category. Usually awarded to researchers from renowned US or Canadian universities, the selection for this Studentship is based on the student's academic merit, their scientific publications and the project presented, as well as the merit of the supervisor and their institution.
