João Sentieiro is the new Research Fellow Ombudsman
João Sentieiro was appointed to act as Ombudsman for Research Fellows ( Dispatch No. 6407/2019 ).
The Research Fellow Ombudsman, whose position is held for three-year periods, has the role of defending and promoting the rights and legitimate interests of scientific research fellows, and within the scope of his/her activity may issue recommendations to host institutions and funding institutions. With a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of London (Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine), João Sentieiro was a Full Professor at IST – Instituto Superior Técnico, from 1995 to 2014. In 1998, he was awarded the rank of Grand Officer of the Order of Sant’Iago da Espada by President Jorge Sampaio. At the 2016 Science Meeting, he was honored along with a group of 11 other scientists with the medal of merit from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education. From January 2006 to January 2012 he was president of the FCT, having been the driving force behind the project to treat the FCT's documentary collection and the creation of the Science and Technology Archive, which was inaugurated at the end of his term, in December 2011.
