João Sentieiro is the new Research Grant Ombudsman
João Sentieiro was appointed to serve as Research Grant Ombudsman (Order No. 6407/2019).
The Research Fellow Ombudsman, whose term of office is three years, is responsible for defending and promoting the rights and legitimate interests of scientific research fellows. As part of their duties, they may issue recommendations to host institutions and funding institutions. (see the ombudsman's website, currently being updated)
João Sentieiro holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of London (Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine) and was a Full Professor at IST – Instituto Superior Técnico from 1995 to 2014. In 1998, he was awarded the title of Grand Officer of the Order of Sant'Iago da Espada by President Jorge Sampaio. At the 2016 Science Meeting, he was honored along with a group of 11 other scientists with the Medal of Merit from the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Higher Education. From January 2006 to January 2012, he was president of FCT, having been the driving force behind the project to process FCT's documentary heritage and the creation of the Science and Technology Archive, which was inaugurated at the end of his term in December 2011.
