Portugal Space opens applications for two Studentships
Portugal Space, the Portuguese Space Agency, is launching two Calls today, July 21, Calls the award of two Studentships with the support of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). These Calls at research in the areas of Space Security and Earth Observation. Applications will be accepted until September 12.
These two Calls of Portugal Space's Studentships program and aim to strengthen research, development, and advanced training projects that enable sustainable and long-term growth of space-related activities in Portugal.
The Call Studentship Space Safety is aimed at students who wish to pursue their doctorates in the fields of Space Meteorology, Space Debris, and/or Planetary Defense and who wish to study the development of tools that combine Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning for space debris management, the development of instruments for the creation or analysis of space debris databases, or the study of recycling, reuse, or in-orbit manufacturing solutions, with the aim of reducing space debris and increasing the sustainability of space operations.
The Call the area of Earth Observation (EO) covers R&D activities for intelligent space systems, in particular for technological development for EO satellite constellations, the use of satellite data, and AI for the creation of applications. In addition, this Call also Call studies that combine Earth Observation and AI to create solutions that support sustainable development goals and the assessment, mitigation, and adaptation to the impacts of climate change.
Portugal Space, created by Council of Ministers Resolution No. 55/2019 of March 13, was established as a private non-profit association. Its founders are FCT, the National Innovation Agency, the Directorate-General for National Defense Resources (DGRDN), and the Autonomous Region of the Azores, through the RAEGE Azores Association – Atlantic Network of Geodynamic and Space Stations. Portugal Space is responsible for promoting and implementing the “Portugal Space 2030” Strategy and coordinating the management of the various national programs related to space.
