FCT President receives title of Emeritus of the University of Lisbon

Helena Pereira, President of the FCT Board of Directors, will receive the title of Emeritus of the University of Lisbon, awarded by the Higher Institute of Agronomy (ISA). The title will be awarded in a ceremony to be held on Wednesday, June 22nd, starting at 5pm, at the Royal Greenhouse, in the Ajuda Botanical Gardens.

Helena Pereira, former student at Técnico, is a full professor at ISA, University of Lisbon. She was vice-president of FCT from 2017 to 2019, and was then appointed President of the FCT Board of Directors, a position she currently holds. With a degree in Chemical-Industrial Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, a PhD (Dr. rer. nat.) from the Faculty of Biology at the University of Hamburg, Germany, and an aggregate from the Instituto Superior de Agronomia, her area of research has been forests and forest products, including bioenergy and biorefineries, in an integrated and multidisciplinary perspective. She has always shown interest and commitment to the gender issue in research and was president of Amonet, the Portuguese Association of Women Scientists. In December 2021 she received the Maria de Lourdes Pintasilgo 2020 Award, given by Instituto Superior Técnico (Técnico).
