Winning projects of the Participatory Budget Portugal (OPP)

Participatory Budgeting

The winning projects of the first Portugal Participatory Budget (OPP) will be announced on Thursday, September 14, at 3pm, in a ceremony at the Pavilhão do Conhecimento open to the public. The session will be attended by the Minister for the Presidency and Administrative Modernization, Maria Manuel Leitão Marques, and the Assistant Secretary of State for Administrative Modernization, Graça Fonseca.

The first PPO was launched by the Portuguese government at the beginning of this year. Voting on the projects submitted by citizens and admitted to the Call ended on September 10 and now the results of this process will be known.

The proposals to the OPP resulted in concrete ideas for projects in the areas of culture, science, adult education and training and agriculture on the mainland, and in the areas of justice and internal administration in the Autonomous Regions.

The proposals submitted were validated according to technical principles and transformed into projects, with a defined investment amount and a foreseeable timeframe for their implementation. A total of 599 projects were put to the vote, 97 of which were in the field of science.

Nationals and foreign citizens legally residing in Portugal, aged 18 or over, were able to vote in the OPP. Each person was entitled to two votes: one for projects with a territorial scope and one for projects with a national scope. Voting could be doneonline or viaSMS.
