Next session of FCT's 25th anniversary celebrations dedicated to "Women in Science"
On May 26, FCT will hold the 5th scientific conference of the program commemorating FCT's 25th anniversary at the University of Beira Interior (UBI) in Covilhã, which will be dedicated to the theme "Women in Science." The session will begin at 2:00 p.m. and will take place in the Amphitheater of Solemn Sessions of Polo I of UBI. The program is available and attendance is free, but prior registration is required. The session will also be broadcast online via a link available on the FCT's 25th anniversary celebrations program page.
The conference will open with speeches by the Chair of the FCT Governing Board, Helena Pereira, and the Rector of UBI, Mário Raposo. This will be followed by four presentations offering specific perspectives on the topic at hand: Helena Pereira will begin with “The FCT and women in science: what has changed in 25 years”; Ana Costa Freitas, President of the Portuguese Association of Women Scientists, will present “Women vs. Science vs. Women”; Diana Maciel, researcher at the ISCSP Interdisciplinary Center for Gender Studies, will speak on "Gender Equality in Higher Education Institutions"; and Maria João Sequeira, from FCT, will address "25 Years of FCT: The Path of Women in Science."
The session will be followed by a roundtable discussion on the theme "Women's paths in science," with the participation of female researchers from various scientific fields, moderated by the vice-president of the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality, Manuel Albano. The session will be closed by the Minister of Science, Technology, and Higher Education, Elvira Fortunato.
FCT is marking its 25th anniversary with a program consisting of 12 sessions, held in different cities, stimulating discussion on topics that are important for the future of science in Portugal and Europe. By the end of the year, sessions will also be held on the following topics: R&D Activities and Projects (June 22, Vila Real); Open Science, Repositories, and Online Library (July, Braga); Summer with Science (August, Bragança); Scientific Culture and Living Science (September, Faro); Advanced Computing (October, Guimarães); International Scientific Cooperation (November, Évora); and The FCT and Science in Portugal and Europe (December, Lisbon).
