Next session of FCT's 25th anniversary dedicated to "Women in Science"
On May 26, at the University of Beira Interior (UBI) in Covilhã, the FCT will hold the 5th scientific conference in the program to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the FCT, which will be dedicated to the theme "Women in Science". The session starts at 2pm and will take place in the Amphitheater of the Solemn Sessions of UBI's Pole I. The program is available and participation in person is free, but requires prior registration. The session will also be broadcast online via a link available on the FCT 25th Anniversary program page.
The conference will be opened by the President of the FCT Board of Directors, Helena Pereira, and the Rector of UBI, Mário Raposo. This will be followed by four papers, with particular views on the topic in question: Helena Pereira will begin with "FCT and women in science: what has changed in 25 years"; Ana Costa Freitas, President of the Portuguese Association of Women Scientists, will present "Women vs. Science vs. Women"; Diana Maciel, a researcher at ISCSP's Interdisciplinary Center for Gender Studies, will talk about "Gender Equality in Higher Education Institutions"; and Maria João Sequeira, from FCT, will discuss "25 Years of FCT: the Path of Women in Science".
The session will be followed by a panel discussion on "Women's journeys in science", with the participation of female researchers in various scientific fields, moderated by the vice-president of the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality, Manuel Albano. The session will be closed by the Minister for Science, Technology and Higher Education, Elvira Fortunato.
FCT is marking its 25th anniversary with a program consisting of 12 sessions, held in different cities, stimulating discussion around important issues for the future of science in Portugal and Europe. Until the end of the year, there will still be sessions on the following themes: R&D Activities and Projects (June 22, Vila Real); Open Science, Repositories and Online Library (July, Braga); Summer with Science (August, Bragança); Scientific Culture and Ciência Viva (September, Faro); Advanced Computing (October, Guimarães); International Scientific Cooperation (November, Évora); and FCT and science in Portugal and Europe (December, Lisbon).
