Next session of the 25th anniversary of FCT is dedicated to "Women in Science

FCT will hold on May 26, at the University of Beira Interior (UBI) in Covilhã, the 5th scientific conference of the program of celebrations of the 25th anniversary of FCT, which will be dedicated to the theme "Women in Science". The session will start at 14h00 and will take place in the Amphitheater of Solemn Sessions of Polo I of UBI. The program is available and attendance is free, but requires prior registration. The session will also be broadcasted online in a link available in the program page of the 25th Anniversary Celebrations of FCT.

The conference will have at its opening the interventions of the President of the Board of Directors of FCT, Helena Pereira, and the Rector of UBI, Mário Raposo. Four papers will follow, with particular views on the topic in focus: Helena Pereira will begin with "FCT and women in science: what has changed in 25 years"; Ana Costa Freitas, President of the Portuguese Association of Women Scientists, will present "Women vs. Women"; Diana Maciel, researcher at ISCSP's Interdisciplinary Center for Gender Studies, will speak about "Gender Equality in Higher Education Institutions"; and Maria João Sequeira, from FCT, will address "25 Years of FCT: the Path of Women in Science".

The session will be followed by a discussion panel, composed by a panel dedicated to the theme "Science courses in women", with the participation of researchers in several scientific areas, moderated by the vice-president of the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality, Manuel Albano. The session will be closed by the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Elvira Fortunato.

FCT is marking its 25th anniversary with a program consisting of 12 sessions, held in different cities, stimulating discussion around important issues for the future of science in Portugal and Europe. Until the end of the year, sessions will still be held on the following themes: R&D Activities and Projects (June 22, Vila Real); Open Science, Repositories and Online Library (July, Braga); Summer with Science (August, Bragança); Scientific Culture and Live Science (September, Faro); Advanced Computing (October, Guimarães); International Scientific Cooperation (November, Évora); and FCT and science in Portugal and Europe (December, Lisbon).
