Regulation for Scientific Employment has been approved

(English version available soon)

The Regulation on Scientific Employment was approved by the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education. The regulation will come into force after its publication in the Official Gazette of the Union.

As support for Scientific Employment is a priority for the FCT, under this regulation financial support will be created to stimulate the hiring of new researchers and the development of scientific employment plans and scientific careers by public or private institutions. The FCT will therefore open two Calls :

  1. Support for the hiring of PhD researchers in all scientific areas and their insertion in research units, financed by the FCT, and their respective host institutions – direct support for the hiring of PhD researchers, through Calls annual events promoted by the FCT, in order to facilitate the continuous and systematic integration of new doctors in scientific institutions.
  2. Support for scientific employment plans and development of scientific careers by higher education institutions, State laboratories and scientific institutions, public or private – support for the development of R&D activities, consecrating and encouraging, among others, the hiring of PhD researchers by scientific institutions, through Calls annual events aimed at institutions and promoted by the FCT.

This financial support strengthens the national scientific and technological system and promotes employment opportunities for doctors, facilitating the formalization of scientific employment and contributing to greater national attractiveness for highly qualified young people. They also contribute to the rejuvenation of scientific institutions, attracting more and better scientists, and to facilitating a framework that stimulates researcher mobility.
