Regulation for Scientific Employment has been approved

(Versão em português disponível em breve)

The Minister of Science, Technology, and Higher Education has approved the Scientific Employment Regulations. The regulations will come into force after their publication in the Official Gazette.

As support for scientific employment is a priority for the FCT, financial support will be created under this regulation to encourage the hiring of new researchers and the development of scientific employment and career plans by public or private institutions. The FCT will therefore open two Calls:

  1. Support for the hiring of PhD researchers in all scientific areas and their placement in research units funded by the FCT and their host institutions– direct support for the hiring of PhD researchers through Calls promoted by the FCT, in order to facilitate the continuous and systematic integration of new PhDs into scientific institutions.
  2. Support for scientific employment plans and scientific career development by higher education institutions, state laboratories, and scientific institutions, whether public or private—support for the development of R&D activities, establishing and encouraging, among other things, the hiring of PhD researchers by scientific institutions through Calls for Calls addressed to institutions and promoted by the FCT.

This financial support strengthens the national scientific and technological system and promotes employment opportunities for PhD holders, facilitating the formalization of scientific employment and contributing to greater national attractiveness for highly qualified young people. It also contributes to the rejuvenation of scientific institutions, attracting more and better scientists, and facilitating a framework that encourages researcher mobility.
