Results of the “RESEARCH 4 COVID-19” support

FCT has announced the results of the "RESEARCH 4 COVID-19" support, an exceptional funding line for the response to the Covid-19 pandemic, created in collaboration with the Agency for Clinical Research and Biomedical Innovation (AICIB) and which will fund 66 research projects. The support for these projects corresponds to an overall investment of €1.8 M, from national funds through the FCT budget.

The "RESEARCH 4 COVID-19" support was created to fund research and development projects and initiatives, already underway or to be developed, which respond to the needs of the National Health Service (SNS) in its intervention to combat the Covid-19 pandemic. It was a condition that the projects could present results in a short period of up to 3 months.

302 applications were received, of which 284 were accepted for evaluation. The Evaluation Committee proposed 66 projects for funding, distributed as follows: 24 projects (36% of the total) for diagnosis, 11 projects (17%) for clinical and epidemiological studies, 14 projects (21%) for prevention, 6 projects (9%) for therapy and 11 projects (17%) in other areas. The list of supported projects can be found here.

The FCT would like to highlight and thank the dedication and generosity of the 15 evaluators who enabled the FCT to present the results of this support 10 working days after the end of the application period.

Taking into account the dynamic and rapid evolution of the situation and the context of uncertainty in which we live, it has been planned that this special RESEARCH 4 COVID-19 support will have two periods for submitting proposals. The second period will be announced in the next few days.
