Results of "RESEARCH 4 COVID-19" support

FCT announced the result of the support "RESEARCH 4 COVID-19", an exceptional funding line for the response to the Covid-19 pandemic, created in collaboration with the Agency for Clinical Research and Biomedical Innovation (AICIB) and that will fund 66 research projects. The support for these projects corresponds to an overall investment of 1.8 M€, coming from national funds through the FCT budget.

The "RESEARCH 4 COVID-19" support was created to fund research and development projects and initiatives, already underway or to be developed, that respond to the needs of the National Health Service (NHS) in its intervention to combat the Covid-19 pandemic. It was a condition that the projects could present results in a short period of time up to a maximum of 3 months.

A total of 302 applications were received, of which 284 were admitted for evaluation. The Evaluation Committee proposed 66 projects for funding, distributed as follows: 24 projects (36% of the total) for diagnosis, 11 projects (17%) for clinical and epidemiological studies, 14 projects (21%) for prevention, 6 projects (9%) for therapy, and 11 projects (17%) in other areas. The list of supported projects can be found here.

FCT highlights and thanks the dedication and generosity of the 15 evaluators that allowed FCT to present the results of this support 10 working days after the closing of the application period.

Given the dynamic and rapidly evolving situation and the uncertain context in which we live, it has been planned that this special support RESEARCH 4 COVID-19 will have two periods for submission of proposals. The second period will be announced in the coming days.
