Final Results of the 3rd edition of the CEEC Individual

The FCT announced the final results, after a preliminary hearing, of the 3rd edition of Call for Individual Scientific Employment Call (CEEC Individual). The process was concluded with the award of 305 employment contracts to PhD researchers, which means that five more contracts will be signed in addition to the 300 planned when the Call was launched.

At the end of October, FCT presented the results of the evaluation of applications and began signing the first employment contracts in February 2021 with the researchers proposed for funding. The contracting process began before the analysis of the comments submitted at the preliminary hearing had been completed, with the FCT committing to add to the contracts planned and disclosed in the provisional results those that would be selected after evaluation of the preliminary hearings. This allowed researchers to start their contracts and work plans at their host institutions without having to wait for the results of the preliminary hearing. Once the preliminary hearing was completed, five more new contracts were selected for funding, which the FCT will forward to the contracting institutions.

The 305 contracts resulting from the 3rd edition of CEEC Individual are distributed as follows across the four contractual categories of Call: 158 Junior Researcher contracts, 118 Assistant Researcher contracts, 27 Principal Investigator contracts, and 2 Coordinating Investigator contracts. By scientific field, the contracts are distributed as follows: 54 contracts in Natural Sciences, 53 in Engineering and Technology, 54 in Humanities, 43 in Social Sciences, 38 in Medical and Health Sciences, and 22 in Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences.

Of the 305 researchers selected, 58% are women, 7% more than in the previous edition of this Call. Foreign researchers represent 28% of the total number of candidates selected for contracts, compared to 31% in Call . The foreign countries most represented by the selected researchers are Spain (34 researchers), Italy (16), France (7), and Germany (6).

The CEEC Individual is one of the instruments for financing the hiring of researchers defined by the Scientific Employment Regulation, launched in 2017 by the FCT, following the publication of Decree-Law No. 57/2016.
