Final Results of the 3rd edition of the CEEC Individual

FCT has announced the final results, after a prior hearing, of the 3rd edition of the Call Encourage Individual Scientific Employment (CEEC Individual). The process was concluded with the award of 305 employment contracts to PhD researchers, which means that 5 more contracts will be signed in addition to the 300 foreseen at the launch of the Call.

At the end of October, FCT presented the results of the evaluation of the applications and began signing the first employment contracts in February 2021 with the researchers proposed for funding. The contracting began before the process of analyzing the comments submitted at the prior hearing was completed, with the FCT committing to adding to the contracts planned and published in the provisional results those that were selected after the prior hearings were evaluated. In this way, the researchers were able to start their contracts and work plans at the host institutions without having to wait for the results of the prior hearing. Once the prior hearing was over, 5 new contracts were selected for funding, which FCT will forward to the contracting institutions.

The 305 contracts resulting from the 3rd edition of the CEEC Individual are distributed as follows across the four contract categories of the Call: 158 Junior Researcher contracts, 118 Assistant Researcher contracts, 27 Principal Researcher contracts and 2 Coordinating Researcher contracts. By scientific field, the contracts are distributed as follows: 54 contracts in Natural Sciences, 53 in Engineering and Technology, 54 in Humanities, 43 in Social Sciences, 38 in Medical and Health Sciences and 22 in Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences.

Of the 305 researchers selected, 58% are women, 7% more than in the previous edition of this Call. Researchers of foreign nationality represent 28% of the total number of candidates selected for a contract, compared to 31% in the previous Call . The foreign countries most represented by the researchers selected are Spain (34 researchers), Italy (16), France (7) and Germany (6).

The CEEC Individual is one of the funding instruments for hiring researchers defined by the Scientific Employment Regulation, launched in 2017 by the FCT following the publication of Decree-Law No. 57/2016.
