Final Results of the 3rd edition of the CEEC Individual

FCT announced the final results, after prior hearing, of the 3rd edition of Call Estímulo ao Emprego Científico Individual (CEEC Individual). The process was concluded with the awarding of 305 employment contracts to Ph.D. researchers, which means that 5 more contracts will be signed in addition to the 300 foreseen in the launching of Call.

In late October, FCT presented the results of the evaluation of the applications and started the signing of the first employment contracts in February 2021 with the researchers proposed for funding. The contracting began before the conclusion of the process of analyzing the comments submitted in prior hearings, with the commitment by FCT to add to the contracts provided for and disclosed in the provisional results those that would be selected after evaluation of the prior hearings. In this way, the researchers were able to start their contracts and work plans at the host institutions without having to wait for the results of the prior hearing. Once the prior hearing was completed, 5 more new contracts were selected for funding, which FCT will forward to the contracting institutions.

The 305 contracts resulting from the 3rd edition of the Individual CEEC are distributed as follows among the four contract categories of Call: 158 Junior Researcher contracts, 118 Assistant Researcher contracts, 27 Principal Researcher contracts and 2 Coordinating Researcher contracts. By scientific fields, the contracts are distributed as follows: 54 contracts in Natural Sciences, 53 in Engineering and Technology, 54 in Humanities, 43 in Social Sciences, 38 in Health and Medical Sciences and 22 in Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences.

Of the 305 researchers selected, 58% are women, 7% more than in the previous edition of this Call. Researchers of foreign nationality represent 28% of the total number of candidates selected for contracts, compared to 31% in the previous Call . The foreign countries most represented by selected researchers are Spain (34 researchers), Italy (16), France (7) and Germany (6).

The Individual CEEC is one of the funding instruments for hiring researchers defined by the Scientific Employment Regulation, launched in 2017 by FCT, following the publication of Decree-Law No. 57/2016.
