Call Maria de Sousa 2021 final results

FCT has published the final results of the Maria de Sousa 2021Call for PhD Research Studentships , with 33 research Studentships having been recommended for funding, a total that confirms the provisional results released in July. The award of these Studentships represents a total investment of 2.4 million euros. See the final list here.

The final results of the evaluation show that 79% of the successful candidates are women, 15% have foreign nationality, and 18% of the work plans are carried out in conjunction with foreign researchers and institutions.

This Call is geared towards obtaining new knowledge that will enable the creation of skills to respond to epidemiological and virological phenomena, including pandemics, and which will translate into efficient prevention measures, better health care and effective support for citizens. Its title is a tribute to the researcher Maria de Sousa, Emeritus Professor at the University of Porto and emeritus researcher at the i3S Institute, as well as a retired full professor at the Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences, internationally renowned for her studies in the immunological area and especially in the thymus-dependent area, or T area.

The contracting process for Studentships approved under this Call begins on this date, in accordance with the FCT Research Studentships Regulations. As in previous Calls , it is the grantee who indicates the start date of the Studentship's funding, which must be between September 1, 2021 and August 1, 2022, as stated in the Call's Notice of the Call , with retroactive payment of Notice of the Call Studentship, when applicable.

Candidates with an unfavorable decision have 15 working days to file a complaint against the final decision or, alternatively, 30 working days to file an appeal through the respective area on the MyFCT portal.
