Science and Technology Week 2020
Science and Technology Week is taking place from November 23 to 29 with numerous science and technology outreach initiatives organized by scientific institutions, universities, schools, museums and science centers throughout the country, in an initiative promoted and coordinated by Ciência Viva, under the motto “Discover the science that is done in Portugal”.
The celebrations of the National Day of Scientific Culture, celebrated on November 24, will be held this year in Porto. They begin with the session celebrating the 30th anniversary of CBQF – Center for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry, of the Faculty of Biotechnology of the Catholic University of Porto, which will take place between 9:30 am and 1 pm. At 7 pm, at the Monastery of São Bento da Vitória, the concert “Vivaldi and Mozart: The Time of the Seasons” will take place, the last in the cycle of concerts with a scientific prelude “Time in Music and Science”, an initiative within the Exarp initiative, which will be preceded by the “Scientific Prelude: Time in Biodiversity” ( online streaming ) .
The highlight of this year's Ciência Viva S&T Week 2020 program is the COVID debates “No, we are not going to talk about SARS-COV-2, COVID-19, but there is an elephant in the room”, every day from 12:00 to 13:00, which are broadcast online on the Youtube platform. On November 27th, at 3 pm, at the Pavilhão do Conhecimento, the Ciência Viva Awards will be presented, which distinguish the recognition and encouragement of individual and collective efforts in promoting scientific and technological culture in Portugal.
