Presentation session of projects by the 'la Caixa' Foundation and FCT
The FCT and the “la Caixa” Foundation will hold this Wednesday, July 25, the presentation session of the eight research projects with social impact selected in the first Call from the “la Caixa” Foundation, in the areas of biomedicine and health. These projects fall within the scope of the “Iberian Initiative for Biomedical Research and Innovation, i4b”, established in the protocol signed between the “la Caixa” Foundation and the FCT in February 2018. In the protocol, the FCT undertakes to match the investment that the “la Caixa” Foundation allocates to selected research projects in the country in these areas.
The presentation session will be attended by the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor, and the Corporate Director of Research and Strategy of the “la Caixa” Foundation, Ángel Font, who will be accompanied by the President of the FCT Board of Directors, Paulo Ferrão, and the Honorary President of BPI and curator of the “la Caixa” Foundation, Artur Santos Silva. The session is part of the celebrations for the anniversary of the Pavilhão do Conhecimento, which will take place at 11:30 am.
The eight selected projects represent a total allocation of around five million euros and are distributed across four areas: neurosciences, infectious diseases, cardiovascular diseases and transversal biomedical projects. THE Call had 785 applications, 167 of which were from Portugal.
