Presentation of 'la Caixa' Foundation and FCT Projects

On Wednesday, July 25, FCT and the "la Caixa" Foundation will present the eight research projects with a social impact selected in the first "la Caixa" Foundation Call , in the areas of biomedicine and health. These projects are part of the "Iberian Biomedical Research and Innovation Initiative, i4b", established in the protocol signed between the "la Caixa" Foundation and the FCT in February 2018. In the protocol, the FCT undertakes to match the investment that the "la Caixa" Foundation allocates to selected research projects in the country in these areas.

The presentation session will be attended by the Minister for Science, Technology and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor, and the Corporate Director for Research and Strategy at the "la Caixa" Foundation, Ángel Font, who will be accompanied by the Chairman of the FCT Board of Directors, Paulo Ferrão, and the Honorary Chairman of BPI and trustee of the "la Caixa" Foundation, Artur Santos Silva. The session is part of the celebrations for the anniversary of the Pavilion of Knowledge, where it will take place at 11.30am.

The eight projects selected represent a total allocation of around five million euros and are divided into four areas: neurosciences, infectious diseases, cardiovascular diseases and transversal biomedical projects. The Call received 785 applications, 167 of which came from Portugal.
