Session of presentation of 'la Caixa' Foundation and FCT Projects

FCT and the "la Caixa" Foundation will hold this Wednesday, July 25, the presentation session of the eight research projects with social impact selected in the first Call of the "la Caixa" Foundation, in the areas of biomedicine and health. These projects fall within the scope of the "Iberian Initiative for Biomedical Research and Innovation, i4b", established in the protocol signed between the "la Caixa" Foundation and FCT in February 2018. In the protocol, FCT commits to match the investment that "la Caixa" Foundation allocates to selected research projects in the country in these areas.

The presentation session will be attended by the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor, and the Corporate Director of Research and Strategy of the "la Caixa" Foundation, Ángel Font, who will be accompanied by the president of the Board of Directors of FCT, Paulo Ferrão, and the Honorary President of BPI and trustee of the "la Caixa" Foundation, Artur Santos Silva. The session is part of the anniversary celebrations of the Pavilion of Knowledge, which will take place at 11:30 am.

The eight projects selected represent a total budget of around five million euros and are distributed over four areas: neurosciences, infectious diseases, cardiovascular diseases and cross-cutting biomedical projects. The Call had 785 applications, 167 of which were from Portugal.
