European Union Mission “Restoring our Ocean and Waters by 2030”

The European Commission, at a side event to the United Nations Ocean Conference held on June 30, launched a Mission Letter calling for support forthe mission "Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030,"open to public and private actors.

This mission aims to protect and restore marine and freshwater ecosystems and biodiversity, prevent and eliminate water pollution, and contribute to a circular and carbon-neutral blue economy. This call for participation seeks to encourage a joint effort to achieve these objectives through the submission of concrete actions, namely policies, programs, initiatives, or projects within the area in question.

The European Commission intends to promote a simple and inclusive cooperation framework, aligned with the interests of various partners. To this end, proposals may be submitted by a variety of entities, including public or private organizations, national, regional, or local authorities, philanthropists and investors, companies, civil society, research centers, and others.

The mission "Restoring our Ocean and Waters by 2030" isone of five missionsthat make up the Horizon Europe program (2021-2027) and are designed to mobilize resources, actors, funding, regulation, among others, to address some of the most pressing problems facing Europe today, including those related to oceans and waters.
