Appointment of new national directors for partnerships with U.S. universities
New national directors have been appointed for the three international partnerships with US universities (MIT – Massachusetts Institute of Technology, UT Austin, and Carnegie Mellon University), which were recently renewed by the government until 2030.
In the MIT Portugal program, João Pedro Barreto (Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Coimbra) and Alexandre Ferreira da Silva (University of Minho) will take on national leadership roles. The UT Austin Portugal partnership will now be led by Rute André (University of Aveiro) and Rui Oliveira (University of Minho). Inês Lynce (Higher Technical Institute of the University of Lisbon) and João Magalhães (Faculty of Science and Technology, NOVA University Lisbon) will now be responsible for the national coordination of the CMU Portugal program. The mission structure is coordinated by José Manuel Mendonça (President Emeritus of INESC TEC and Professor Emeritus of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto).
These three programs are part of the promotion of the internationalization of national scientific and higher education institutions, promoting innovative projects and the mobility of students, teachers, researchers, and entrepreneurs. These partnerships promote new thematic knowledge networks and mobilize international actors from partner universities in research, training, and entrepreneurship projects of common interest, promoting innovative ideas and research projects with the potential to address complex challenges with a high global impact.
