New “FCT Mobility” program supports the international mobility of researchers
The FCT has announced the launch of the "FCT Mobility" program, aimed at supporting the international mobility of researchers. The program will fund medium- and long-term stays for Portuguese PhD researchers at foreign institutions and for foreign PhD researchers at Portuguese institutions, with a view to carrying out research and/or fieldwork.
Affiliated researchers who are members of national R&D units and who wish to receive financial support for scientific research at foreign institutions or to host researchers affiliated with foreign institutions are eligible to apply.
With a total budget of €5 million, fully funded by investment RE-C06-i06 – “Science Plus Training” of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), “FCT Mobility” is a versatile and flexible program that supports the international mobility of PhD researchers at any stage of their careers, in any field of knowledge, and in any region of the world.
It is expected that at least 185 mobility projects will be supported under this program, to be contracted by March 31, 2026. The support granted includes a travel allowance and a monthly allowance for accommodation, which varies according to the destination country.
The program offers two options:
– FCT Mobility outgoing, which supports the stay of national researchers at foreign institutions for between 2 and 11 consecutive months.
– FCT Mobility incoming, aimed at welcoming researchers affiliated with foreign institutions to Portugal to carry out joint scientific activities. The mobility period must have a minimum duration of 1 month (30 days) and a maximum of 3 consecutive months.
Applications will be accepted from November 7, 2024, until 5 p.m. on December 31, 2025 (Mainland Portugal time) or until the program's maximum allocation has been reached (whichever comes first).
