Open Research Europe Opens Applications for the Scientific Advisory Board

Applications are now open through July 10, 2026, to join theScientific Advisory Board of Open Research Europe (ORE), the European open-access scientific publishing platform supported by a consortium of European funding agencies and research organizations, including the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).

This science-based advisory body will be composed of 20 researchers of recognized international standing, and its mission will be to provide scientific and strategic guidance on the platform’s development. Among its main functions are issuing opinions on ORE’s editorial activities, ethical principles, and peer-review processes, as well as on the platform’s strategic direction, its sustainability, potential new services, and opportunities for collaboration.

Researchers affiliated with research institutions who have internationally recognized scientific excellence, editorial experience with international academic journals or community-led publications, and experience in science communication and public engagement are eligible to apply to the Scientific Advisory Board. In addition to declaring and being free of any potential conflicts of interest, candidates will also be evaluated based on their demonstrated commitment to the principles of Open Science, their experience in science policy, governance, or large-scale initiatives, as well as their strategic and systemic thinking skills.

Applications must include a concise resume, listing up to 10 achievements that the applicant considers most significant in terms of scientific and/or societal impact, and a cover letter of no more than 500 words.

The evaluation will take into account the candidates’ scientific excellence and reputation (60%), their editorial and research evaluation experience (20%), and their commitment to Open Science (20%).

The ORE Scientific Advisory Boardis scheduled to be established by September 2026.
