ALBA - Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory

On February 11, 2019, an agreement was signed between FCT and the Consortium for the Construction, Equipping and Exploitation of the Synchrotron Light Source (CELLS) , with the aim of establishing the framework for collaboration between the parties, in the spirit of improving scientific and technical exchange, developing common projects and facilitating access to scientific instrumentation in the institutions considered by the two scientific communities.

CELLS is a public consortium formed by an agreement between the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Autonomous Region of Catalonia in 2003, whose purpose is the construction, equipment and subsequent operation of a Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory (ALBA), developing its activities in the field of synchrotron production and scientific use.

This agreement defines the conditions for collaboration and possible initiatives, such as:

  • The access of national researchers, in a competitive way, to the laboratory under the same conditions as Spanish researchers;
  • Participation of Portugal as an observer in the ALBA Scientific and Advisory Committee (ALBA SAC), through the nomination of a Portuguese scientist of recognized merit;
  • Creation of a joint Post Doctoral Program.
