Arquivo.pt Award 2023 winners announced
The winners of the 2023 Arquivo.pt Award have been announced, and they will receive their awards at the 2023 Science Meeting on July 7 at the University of Aveiro. This Call to recognize works that used the Arquivo.pt collection as a source, a research infrastructure managed by the FCCN Unit of the FCT, which allows researchers, but also the general public, to search and access web pages archived since 1996.
This year, the Call 40 entries. The jury selected the top three winners and two honorable mentions awarded by the Público newspaper and the Aveiro Media Competence Center.
First place, with a prize of €10,000, went to the project“Viajar no tempo sobre carris”(Traveling through time onrails), developed by Antero Pires, Carlos Cipriano, Diogo Ferreira Nunes, and Ruben Martins. This is an online platform that analyzes and presents the evolution of train travel times in Portugal, based on timetables preserved in Arquivo.pt.
Second place, "Representation of female artists in the national press," was awarded a prize of €3,000. This work was authored by Cláudia Sevivas and Miguel Boavida and resulted in the website Existo, which provides information about Portuguese female artists and references the web pages on which they have been mentioned over time. The work is based on an analysis of their representation and visibility, which allows for various interpretations.
Third place received a prize of €2,000 and was awarded to the project“Memória Política” (Political Memory), developed by Miguel Lopes, Maria Carneiro, and João Andrade. This project gave rise to a web application that processes and presents information taken from the websites of the political parties represented in the Portuguese Parliament, archived by Arquivo.pt.
The first honorable mention, from the Público newspaper, went to the“Fábrica do Jornal”project, which allows us to generate a personalized newspaper from news preserved in Arquivo.pt, with the option of obtaining a version that can be printed or saved in digital format. The Aveiro Media Competence Center (AMCC) awarded its honorable mention to the work "Imaginarium,"created by Diogo Sousa, a web application that searches for images based on similarities with other images.
