Belmiro de Azevedo Foundation Award with the support of FCT

Applications for the Belmiro de Azevedo Foundation Award - Conservation, restoration and monitoring of biodiversity in Portugal - opened today, 4 July. This award is the result of a protocol between the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and the Belmiro de Azevedo Foundation (FBA). Applications will be open until 5:00 PM (Lisbon time) on 3 August 2023.

This award aims to promote the implementation of projects with clear national and international merit and impact in the field of conservation, restoration and monitoring of biodiversity in Portugal. Each of the prizes granted will have a maximum of €250,000 and a minimum of €100,000. The total funding foreseen for the award will be shared equally up to a total amount of €500,000.

Non-profit private legal entities with headquarters in Portugal may apply, including scientific societies or non-profit scientific associations, and higher education institutions and their public or private R&D institutes and units. Each proposal must appoint a researcher responsible for coordinating the work of the entity, holding a "Doctorate" degree for at least 5 years and each researcher cannot be part of more than one application.

Applications must be submitted, in English, by filling in the online form available on the myFCT platform.
