Global Biodiversity Information Facility Award 2026 now accepting applications

The Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), an international infrastructure of which Portugal is a member, has launched the 2026 edition of theGraduate Researchers Award, aimed at Master's and PhD students. The Call foster research and innovation in the field of biodiversity informatics, with awards based on criteria of originality and innovation, the use and analysis of data published by GBIF, and also the effectiveness and impact on biodiversity and its conservation.

Candidates from each country are nominated by their respective national nodes. In the case of Portugal, master's and doctoral students are eligible for nomination, provided they are Portuguese nationals or students of another nationality enrolled at a Portuguese institution. The deadline for submitting applications to the Portuguese Node of GBIF is May 15, 2026. Portugal, with the support of FCT, is part of the international GBIF platform, whose mission is to coordinate the standardization, digitization, and global dissemination of data on global biodiversity for the benefit of science and society. Among other activities, GBIF launches Calls to foster research and innovation in the field of biodiversity informatics.
