Marsh Award for Climate Change Research 2024 awarded to Miguel Bastos Araújo
On September 4, the British Ecological Society announced the winners of its annual awards, which recognize nine distinguished ecologists whose work has benefited the scientific community and society at large.
This year's Marsh Prize for Climate Change Research was awarded to Miguel Bastos Araújo, from the National Museum of Natural Sciences. This award is given in recognition of the outstanding contribution to climate change research made by Miguel Bastos Araújo, Professor at the University of Évora and member of the Scientific Council for Natural Sciences and the Environment of the FCT. Miguel Bastos Araújo was also a speaker at the Science 2024 Meeting, in the plenary session on "Sustainable Development: Concepts and Trajectories."
The award ceremony, organized by the Marsh Charitable Trust, will take place at the British Ecological Society's annual meeting, which will be held from December 10 to 13 in Liverpool. The meeting will bring together more than 1,000 ecologists (in person and online) to discuss the latest advances in ecological research.
Founded in 1913, the British Ecological Society is the oldest ecological society in the world, promoting the study of ecology through its six academic journals, conferences, Studentships, educational initiatives, and policy work. The society currently has 7,000 members from over 120 different countries.
The FCT congratulates Miguel Bastos Araújo on this distinction, which contributes to the international recognition of the scientific work being carried out in Portugal.
