The FCT's Draft Regulation on Scientific Employment in a Non-Academic Context was published in the Diário da República on January 7, 2025. The aim of this document is to establish the conditions of access and the rules for supporting the hiring of PhD researchers in a non-academic context.

Through this document, the FCT will strengthen the employability mechanisms for doctoral graduates to carry out research and development activities, funding their hiring by non-academic entities, namely companies. The Regulation provides support for scientific research, technological development and S&T management and communication activities through the hiring of PhD researchers, thus contributing to increasing the competitiveness of the productive and social fabric.

The FCT is thus reinforcing its initiatives to promote intersectoral mobility, guaranteeing greater inclusiveness and diversity in the profiles, backgrounds and contributions of researchers, and also, in general, in the research carried out in Portugal, strengthening the link between paths developed in academic and non-academic environments.

The FCT's Draft Regulation on Scientific Employment in a Non-Academic Context will be in public consultation until February 18, 2025. Interested parties can send their suggestions to the FCT, preferably digitally, to the following email address: emprego.cientifico@fct.pt.
