The Draft Regulation on Scientific Employment in Non-Academic Contexts by the FCT was published in the Official Gazette on January 7, 2025. This document aims to establish the conditions of access and rules for supporting the hiring of PhD researchers in non-academic contexts.

Through this document, the FCT will strengthen the employability mechanisms of PhD graduates for research and development activities, financing their hiring by non-academic entities, namely companies. The Regulation embodies support for scientific research, technological development, and management and communication activities in science and technology through the hiring of PhD researchers, thereby contributing to increased competitiveness in the productive and social fabric.

The FCT thus reinforces its initiatives to promote intersectoral mobility, ensuring greater inclusivity and diversity of profiles, career paths, and contributions from researchers, and also, in general, from research carried out in Portugal, strengthening the link between career paths developed in academic and non-academic environments.

The FCT's Draft Regulation on Scientific Employment in Non-Academic Contexts will be open for public consultation until February 18, 2025. Interested parties are invited to send their suggestions to the FCT, preferably by email, to the following address:emprego.cientifico@fct.pt.
