Results of Call Studentships Doctorates 2022

The FCT today announced the provisional results of applications Call 2022Call PhD Studentships , with 1,450 new Studentships awarded Studentships research activities leading to a PhD degree in doctoral programs at Portuguese or foreign universities. A total of 3,130 applications Call submitted to this Call , with an approval rate of 46%, representing an estimated investment of €112 million supported by national and EU funds.

The selection of candidates took into account the merit of the candidate, the merit of the work plan, and the merit of the host institution and supervisors. The application evaluation process involved the participation of 424 evaluators, distributed across 37 evaluation panels. This edition featured a multidisciplinary panel dedicated to evaluating applications in a non-academic environment. This panel assessed applications with work plans to be carried out wholly or partly in non-academic entities, namely companies, collaborative laboratories, technology and innovation centers, technology interface centers, public administration entities, or third sector entities.

The number of Studentships be awarded in each panel was set by decision of the FCT Governing Board, taking into account the scientific policy guidelines for Portugal in the European context contained in the report "Higher Education, Research and Innovation in Portugal – Perspectives for 2030," as well as the recommendations resulting from the assessment of the contribution of the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) to Advanced Training.

Analysis of the provisional results of Call shows that women represent 58% of the candidates proposed for funding and men 42%.

Studentships be carried out entirely in Portugal account for 80% of the total, 18% of Studentships mixed (part in Portugal and part abroad) and 2% will be carried out entirely abroad. Of the selected candidates, 76% are Portuguese nationals. Candidates from 54 countries have been proposed for funding, with Brazilian, Italian, Iranian, and Spanish nationals being the most represented among foreign applicants.

The provisional results of this Call communicated to all applicants, who have access to the comments justifying the rating assigned to their application. In case of disagreement with the proposed decision, applicants may submit arguments at a preliminary hearing of interested parties, until August 11, 2022, to be reviewed by the evaluation panel. The final results of Call announced by FCT during October 2022.

The Studentships contracting process Studentships on the date the final results are announced. Studentships will begin on the first day of the month indicated by the candidate in the contract, between September 1, 2022, and August 1, 2023. Where applicable, Studentships will be paid retroactively.

This evaluation process lasted 75 working days between the end of the application period and the communication of the provisional results.
