Results from Call of IC&DT projects in all scientific domains from 2022

FCT today communicated the results of the Call of R&D Projects in all Scientific Domains - 2022 to all applicants. A total of 630 projects were selected for funding, representing an investment of 74.8 million euros, supported by national funds through the FCT budget. The list of projects recommended for funding and the summary results of Call are available here. The detail of the results of each application should be consulted by the Principal Investigator on the myFCT platform.

This Call supports two types of projects:

  • Scientific research and technological development projects (IC&DT), with a duration of 36 months and maximum funding per project of 250 thousand Euros, with an allocation of 55 million Euros;
    Exploratory research projects (PeX), with a duration of 18 months and maximum funding per project of 50 thousand euros, with an allocation of 20 million euros.
  • The 225 RTD&D projects recommended for funding are distributed over the following scientific areas: Medical and Health Sciences - 17.8%, Engineering and Technology Sciences - 25.3%, Natural Sciences - 17.3%, Social Sciences - 12.4%, Exact Sciences - 11.6%, Agricultural Sciences - 8.4%, and Humanities - 7.1%.

The 405 PeX projects recommended for funding are distributed over the following scientific areas: Medical and Health Sciences - 23.0%, Engineering Sciences and Technologies - 18.8%, Natural Sciences - 21.0%, Social Sciences - 11.1%, Exact Sciences - 11.1%, Agricultural Sciences - 7.7%, and Humanities - 7.4%.

The researchers leading the funded projects are mostly women, representing 55.7% of the total, and 11.3% are foreign researchers, from 22 nationalities, working in research centers in Portugal and leading 71 of the selected projects.
The period for submitting applications ran from February 8 to March 11 this year. A total of 4101 applications were submitted of which 4093 applications were admitted for evaluation, in accordance with the terms of Notice of the Call de Call. The success rate of Call as a percentage of total applications admitted for evaluation was 8.3% for IC&DT projects and 29.0% for exploratory projects. The overall success rate of Call, considering applications of both types, was 15.4%.

The applications were evaluated by 33 evaluation panels, in different scientific areas, with 557 evaluators affiliated to foreign institutions distributed by 35 nationalities and of which 53% are women. Each proposal was evaluated and classified by the scientific merit and innovative character of the project, scientific merit of the research team, feasibility of the work program and contribution to the accumulation of knowledge and skills. For each evaluation panel and for each type of project, a percentage of the total budget allocated to Call was calculated, in accordance with the total amount of funding requested by the applications that obtained a project merit equal to or greater than 7, as set forth in the Notice for the Presentation of Applications.
