Results of the Horizon Europe Call for Excellence

The results of Call for Excellence, under Horizon Europe, the European funding framework program for research and innovation 2021-2027, have been announced. Teaming for Excellence is a Call under Horizon Europe, which aims to implement and develop research centers in Europe, encouraging reforms in national science and technology systems and promoting institutional transformations.

Portugal has two proposals recommended for funding, out of a total of 12 selected proposals. The proposals submitted by NOVA (“NOVA Institute for Medical Systems Biology”) and iMM (“iMM-CARE: Boosting clinical research for the benefit of society”) could jointly benefit from a total of around €25 million in European funding to develop their projects in the field of health over the next six years.

This result is also highly significant for the pursuit of national objectives for the period 2021-2027, contributing to doubling Portugal's presence in European programs compared to 2014-2020, and attracting around €2 billion in European Union funding in the areas of research and innovation during that period.
