Provisional Results of the 7th Call Proposals to Stimulate Scientific Employment – Individual
On September 30, FCT published the provisional results of Call Individual Scientific Employment Stimulus – 7th Edition (CEEC Individual), in which 400 new employment contracts are awarded to researchers with doctorates in all scientific areas, representing a financial investment of around €63 million. Over the seven editions held, CEEC Individual has already awarded a total of 2,700 contracts to researchers with doctorates.
In this 7th edition of the CEEC Individual, 2,784 applications were evaluated. The 400 researchers selected are divided into two contractual categories: 211 Junior contracts and 189 Assistant contracts. Of the 400 applications selected, 17 refer to applications approved via Decree-Law No. 29/2001, of February 3, with the remaining 383 contracts distributed proportionally by category and evaluation panel, according to the number of applications evaluated.
As introduced in the 6th edition of Call, in order to assess the merit of applications qualitatively, candidates were asked to present their scientific and curricular background in narrative form, describing their research trajectory.
Of the selected applications, 56% are from women and 30% are from researchers of foreign nationality. The countries with the highest representation are: Spain (34 researchers), Italy (20), and Brazil (9). See the statistical summary.
Applications were selected through a peer review and evaluation process carried out by 29 panels made up of internationally affiliated scientific experts, totaling 374 evaluators. Women accounted for 47% of the evaluators. See the composition of the evaluation panels.
After the provisional results are announced, a ten-business-day preliminary hearing period begins, during which unsuccessful candidates may contest their evaluation.
Employment contracts must be signed between researchers and host institutions within 90 days of the signing of program contracts between the latter and the FCT. This will take place after the final results have been announced (following the preliminary hearing).
The CEEC Individual is one of the instruments for financing the hiring of researchers defined by the Scientific Employment Regulation (REC) launched in 2017 by the FCT, following the publication of Decree-Law No. 57/2016, and updated in 2023 (see the current version of the REC here ). The Individual CEEC has been held annually since 2018. Below is a table summarizing the seven editions already completed.
