22nd Edition of L’Oréal Portugal Medals of Honor for Women in Science
The Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), in partnership with L'Oréal Portugaland the Portuguese National Commission for UNESCO, is launching the 22nd edition of the "L'Oréal Portugal Medals of Honor for Women in Science." Applications will be accepted from December 9 of this year until 5:00 p.m. (Mainland Portugal time) on January 30, 2026.
In this edition, four medals of honor are to be awarded, worth €15,000 each. The initiative aims to support advanced scientific research studies at the postdoctoral level, carried out at an institution within the national scientific and technological system, in the field of Science, Engineering, and Technology for Health or the Environment.
All women who, on the date of the Call opening, have obtained their doctoral degree less than five years ago and who will not be over 35 years of age by the end of 2025 are eligible to apply. For applicants who have children, the age limit may be extended by one year for each child, depending on the number of children.
Held since 2004, this Call far distinguished 73 young female researchers in Portugal. Meet the winners of the 2024 edition: Ana Patrícia Carvalho Henriques from i3S – Institute for Research and Innovation in Health, University of Porto; Ana Rita José Lopes from MARE – Center for Marine and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon; Céline Saraiva Gonçalves from ICVS – Institute for Research in Life and Health Sciences, University of Minho; and Paola Sanjuan Alberte from IST-ID, Instituto Superior Técnico.
