The Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) has opened new applications for the 5th Call for Advanced Computing Projects, aimed at accesses A2 and A3. Applicants must submit their applications by 5 p.m. (mainland Portugal time) on March 11, 2025. The initiative aims to consolidate Portugal as a relevant player on the European advanced computing scene, offering opportunities for researchers and institutions to explore innovative computational resources.

This year's edition has a new feature: a single form for submitting proposals for A2 or A3 projects, either via the fast track or the full track, simplifying the process for applicants. Each responsible person can submit one application in each typology.

  • Fast Track: Aimed at projects with a previous scientific evaluation carried out in the last three years. Results are expected to be published in April 2025.
  • Integral Route: For projects without recent scientific evaluation, which will be evaluated by external experts within the framework of the Call. The results of this route are expected in June 2025, after all the stages of scientific evaluation have been completed.

Overall, this Call aims to continue strengthening the use of advanced computing resources on platforms such as Deucalion, boosting national projects with a high scientific, technological and innovative impact.

To support applicants, an online information session will be held on January 23 at 12 noon. You must register in advance on the platform for the session.

At the same time, applications for the A0 (Experimental) and A1 (Development) accesses remain open continuously, organized into various batches throughout the year. Applications for Lot C are currently underway, with a deadline of March 18. For more information, the information session dedicated to the A0 and A1 accesses is still available.
