The IUE is a unique international institute for advanced academic training, which promotes research at the level of excellence. Geared towards doctorates and post-doctorates and recruiting students from all Member States as well as from other parts of the world, it aims to develop studies and research projects on topics with a European dimension in the areas of Political and Social Sciences, Law, Economics and History.
The FCT has already awarded a total of 41 Studentships doctorates to the IUE, under a protocol signed between the FCT and the Directorate General for European Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which has been in force since 2012.
The European University Institute was created in 1972 and has 23 members, including Portugal, which joined the EUI in 1989 with the signing of the Convention that created the Institute. Portugal will assume its (rotating) presidency in 2025.
