Call Studentships at the European University Institute with funding from FCT
Applications are now open for the European University Institute (EUI) Studentships for the 2025-26 academic year in the fields of Law, Economics, History and Civilization, and Political and Social Sciences. The deadline is 11:59 p.m. (Florence time) on January 31, 2025, and citizens (Portuguese, other European Union member states, third countries, stateless persons, or beneficiaries of political refugee status) may apply, provided they can prove that they reside permanently and habitually in Portugal.
For the current academic year, the FCT will award four doctoral Studentships , with a maximum duration of four years (the first, second, and third years will be funded by the FCT, and the fourth year will be funded by the IUE).
The IUE is a unique international institute for advanced academic training, which promotes research at the highest level of excellence. Dedicated to doctoral and post-doctoral studies and recruiting students from all Member States, as well as from other parts of the world, its aim is to develop studies and research projects on topics of European dimension in the fields of Political and Social Sciences, Law, Economics, and History.
The FCT has already awarded a total of 41 Studentships to the IUE under a protocol signed between the FCT and the Directorate-General for European Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which has been in force since 2012.
The European University Institute was established in 1972 and has 23 members, including Portugal, which joined the EUI in 1989 with the signing of the Convention establishing the Institute. Portugal will assume its (rotating) presidency in 2025.
