CMU - Call for Affiliated PhD Programs

Applications for the 5th edition of the CMU Portugal Affiliated Ph.D. Programs, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), are open until June 15, 2025, and are intended to award 12 Studentships for the 2025/2026 academic year, to study in Portugal and at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in Pittsburgh.

The 12 Studentships are available at Portuguese universities in selected areas of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) related to CMU Portugal, including three new areas this year: Biomedical Engineering; Computational Cognitive Neuroscience, and Materials Science and Engineering. The remaining areas are Computer Science; Electrical and Computer Engineering; Engineering and Public Policy; Human-Computer Interaction; Language Technologies; Machine Learning; Mechanical Engineering; Robotics; Social Computing; and Software Engineering.

The Studentships will fully cover tuition fees, in addition to a Studentship for a maximum period of four years, including financial support during a 12-month research period at CMU. Upon completion of the doctorate, candidates will receive a degree awarded by the Portuguese host institution.

The application period runs from 12:00 p.m. (Lisbon time) on May 12 to 12:00 p.m. (Lisbon time) on June 15, 2025. Information about applications is now available.

On May 22 (10:00 a.m. Pittsburgh time and 3:00 p.m. Lisbon time), the CMU Portugal Coordination Office will hold an Online Information Session to answer any questions about this Call.
