CMU-Portugal and UT Austin-Portugal Exploratory Project Calls Fund 15 New Research Projects
The provisional results of Calls 2025 Exploratory Calls the national programs of Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and the University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin) have been announced by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). A total of 15 projects were approved, with funding ranging from €49,000 to €70,000 per project, depending on the nature of the application. The total investment amounts to €789,310.45, fully funded by the FCT budget.
Under the CMU-Portugal Program, priority was given to projects in the field of Information Technology, while the call for proposals under the UT Austin-Portugal Program covers the fields of Advanced Computing, Nanomaterials, Space-Earth Technologies, and Clean Energy.
The CMU-Portugal and UT Austin-Portugal Programs annually support 12-month exploratory projects aimed at developing disruptive, high-risk scientific research with the potential to enhance the value and application of scientific findings. The projects now selected reflect the ongoing scientific cooperation between Portugal and these internationally renowned institutions, and are expected to contribute to strengthening international scientific collaboration and knowledge transfer in areas strategic to scientific and technological development.
These initiatives are part of the FCT’s strategy to support the internationalization of the national scientific and technological community, promoting Portugal’s participation in international networks and forums, as well as the funding of innovative projects developed through international partnerships and the mobility of highly qualified personnel.
