The Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area (PRIMA) launch the call 2023, with European Commission (H2020) funds, for the collaborative projects on water management, farming systems, agri-food chain and water-energy-food-ecosystems.

Since 2018 PRIMA Foundation launch an annual call for transnational collaborative Euro-Mediterranean projects in the thematic areas of PRIMA research and Innovation agenda:
- Water Management
- Farming Systems
- Agri-food value Chain
- Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (since 2021)
The call follows H2020 rules and funds. PRIMA Foundation is responsible for the call and project management.
Section 1 call has four topics each on the Research and Innovation Agenda pillars and the fourth on nexus between the pillars.
- Thematic area 1 – Water Management. Topic 1.1.1 – 2023 (IA) Integrated adaptative wastewater management plans in the Mediterranean region
- Thematic area 2 – Farming Systems. Topic 1.2.1 – 2023 (IA) Actions to restore ans return degraded lands in the Mediterranean region into productive agroecosystems
- Thematic area 3 – Agri-food value Chain. Topic 1.3.1 – 2022 (RIA) Increasing agri-food supply chain (cereal) resilience in the MENA region
- Thematic area Nexus. Topic 1.4.1 – 2023 (IA) Accelerate adaptation and mitigation to climate change in the Mediterranean region by deploying WEFE nexus solutions

According to Horizon 2020 Rules. Please refer to section 5.1.1 of the PRIMA Annual Work Plan 2023 for the List of countries eligible for funding.
In addition to the minimum number of participants (3 legal entities) set out in standard elegibility conditions consorcia must include at least one additional independent legal entity established in any of the Mediterranean Partner Countries (MPC). The eligibility rules can be read as follows:
At least four legal entities established in at least three diferent countries considered as PRIMA Participating States out of each:
- at least one must be established in an EU Member State or a third country associated with Horizon 2020 and not being na MPC
- at least two must be established in third country/countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea (MPC): Algeria, Jordan, Israel, Tunisia, Morocco, Lebanon, Egypt e Turkey.

Evaluation process:
A two-step evaluation process will be organised.
- First Step:
- Eligibility check of pre-proposals will be performed by the Call Secretariat, according to the “eligibility criteria” present in the call documents;
- Evaluation of the eligible pre-proposals will be performed by an independent evaluation peer-review according to call documents.
2. Second Step:
- Eligibility check of full proposals will be performed by the PRIMA Call Secretariat;
- Evaluation of the eligible full proposals will be performed by an independent peer-review according to the following criteria:
- Excellence
- Impact
- Quality and efficiency of the implementation

PRIMA Section 1 – 2023 has an indicative budget of 32,8M€, with around 8.2M€ to each call topic.
• Thematic area 1 – Water Management. Topic 1.1.1 – 2023 (IA) Integrated adaptative wastewater management plans in the Mediterranean region. According to Horizon 2020 Rules. 70% (except for non-profit legal entities, where a rate of 100% applies). TRL 6-8. The total indicative amount allocated to this call EUR 8.2 million. PRIMA considers that proposals requesting a contribution from the EU in the range of EUR 4.1 million and with a duration of 36 months would allow this specific challenge to be addressed appropriately. Nonetheless, this does not preclude submitting and selecting proposals requesting other amounts or duration.
• Thematic area 2 – Farming Systems. Topic 1.2.1 – 2023 (IA) Actions to restore ans return degraded lands in the Mediterranean region into productive agroecosystems. According to Horizon 2020 Rules. 70% (except for non-profit legal entities, where a rate of 100% applies). TRL 6-8. The total indicative amount allocated to this call EUR 8.2 million. PRIMA considers that proposals requesting a contribution from the EU in the range of EUR 4.1 million and with a duration of 36 months would allow this specific challenge to be addressed appropriately. Nonetheless, this does not preclude submitting and selecting proposals requesting other amounts or duration.

PRIMA considers that proposals requesting a contribution from the EU in the range of EURO 2,75 million and 36 months would allow this specific challenge to be addressed appropriately. Nonetheless, this does not preclude submitting and the selection of proposals requesting other amounts or duration.
• Thematic area Nexus. Topic 1.4.1 – 2023 (IA) Accelerate adaptation and mitigation to climate change in the Mediterranean region by deploying WEFE nexus solutions.
