COST approves 70 new actions to promote research

COST(European Cooperation in Science and Technology) recently approved 70 new Actions to promote research in all areas of knowledge, which aim to encourage cooperation between the different member states by setting up partnerships and networks.
Of these 70 new Actions, 90% have national participation and six of them are coordinated by researchers affiliated to institutions in the National Science and Technology System (SNCT).
The call for expressions of interest for the Management Committees of these new COST Actions and other Actions with open positions is now open. Please note that the Action Management Committee may include up to two researchers affiliated to SNCT institutions. The deadlines for submitting expressions of interest are as follows:
- Until June 27, 2025, for all members of the group proposing the new approved actions;
- Until July 11, 2025, for all others interested in joining the Management Committee of the new approved Actions or others that are underway.
Priority for membership of the Management Committee will be given to those who were part of the proposing group.
More than 250 COST actions are underway, with almost 100% Portuguese participation. See the page on the FCT website dedicated to COST for more information on how to submit your expression of interest (Legislation and Regulations section).
Consult the information on all the Active Actions, which represent an opportunity for transnational networking for interested researchers.
COST's mission is to support the creation of transnational cooperation networks between researchers across Europe, so that they can freely, openly and jointly develop their ideas and initiatives. These networks, called COST Actions, enable advances in the development of scientific knowledge and the training of their participants. Portugal is a success story in COST, in which around 2,000 researchers affiliated to national institutions are involved every year.
The Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) coordinates the promotion and participation of the national scientific community in COST, and is responsible for appointing the members of the Action Management Committee.
