COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) launches 60 new Actions

COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) recently approved 60 new Actions aimed at promoting research on strategic topics, encouraging cooperation between different member states through the establishment of partnerships and networks. Seven proposals coordinated by researchers affiliated with SNCT institutions stand out in this context, as does the fact that 90% of the approved Actions have national representation in the group of proponents.

The call for expressions of interest for the Management Committees of these new COST Actions and other Actions with open positions is now open. Please note that the Action Management Committee may include up to two researchers affiliated with SNCT institutions. The deadlines for submitting expressions of interest are as follows:

  • Until June 28, 2024, for all members of the group proposing the new approved actions;
  • Until July 12, 2024, for all others interested in joining the Management Committee for the new approved Actions or others that are currently underway.

Priority to join the Management Committee will be given to those who were part of the proposing group.

More than 250 COST actions are currently underway, with almost 100% Portuguese participation. Visit the FCT website page dedicated to COST for more information and click here for information on active actions, which represent an opportunity for transnational network collaboration for interested researchers.

COST's mission is to support the creation of transnational cooperation networks between researchers across Europe, so that they can freely, openly, and jointly develop their ideas and initiatives. These networks, called COST Actions, enable advances in the development of scientific knowledge and the training of their participants. Portugal is a success story in COST, under which more than 1,500 national researchers benefit from funding each year.

The FCT coordinates the promotion and participation of the national scientific community in COST and is responsible for the appointment of members to the Action Management Committee.

40th Anniversary Seal Framework Program 2024 marks the 40th anniversary of the European Union Framework Program, the largest instrument for promoting European research, development, and innovation, and a beacon for international scientific cooperation.
