Applications are now open for the Prize "Impact of Science on Economy and Society in Portugal: Investment, scientific employment and valorization of knowledge", promoted by the Office of Strategy and Studies (GEE) and supported by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). This award aims to distinguish scientific work/articles that contribute to greater knowledge and evidence of public and private investment in science and R&D, on the economic and social development of the country, the competitiveness of companies, technology-based entrepreneurship, the internationalization of the scientific and technological system or the response to societal challenges.

The total amount of the prize is 12,000 euros (twelve thousand euros) and will be distributed among the 4 (four) best articles submitted to Call.

This is the 10th edition of the GEE's Call for Papers initiative, whose objectives are to promote knowledge and research on the Impact of Science in Portugal and to function as a forum for discussion of public policy solutions in the area.

The submission deadline for draft articles is February 28, 2023, and for those that are shortlisted, final versions must be submitted by May 15, 2023.

The accepted papers are subject to an evaluation process by the Scientific Committee, composed by Anabela Marques dos Santos (JRC, European Commission), António Bob Santos (Foundation for Science and Technology), António Braz Costa (CITEVE), Joana Almodovar (GEE, Ministry of Economy and Sea), Joana Costa (University of Aveiro), José Carlos Caldeira (INESC-TEC) and Vítor Corado Simões (ISEG, University of Lisbon).

This Call of the Prize "Impact of Science on Economy and Society in Portugal" fits in the FCT's mission to stimulate the development of original scientific articles about the Portuguese economy, on structuring themes, relevant in the various phases of public policies, with preference for the use of empirical data. The relevance of the Awards and their thematic fits also into the main missions of the FCT: to continuously promote the advancement of scientific and technological knowledge in Portugal, to achieve the highest international standards of quality and competitiveness in all scientific and technological fields, and to stimulate their dissemination and contribution to society and the productive fabric.

The call notice and regulations are available on the GEE and FCT websites.
