FCT and GEE launch the “Impact of Science on the Economy and Society in Portugal” Award

Applications are now open for the "Impact of Science on the Economy and Society in Portugal: Investment, Scientific Employment, and Knowledge Enhancement"Award, promoted by the Office of Strategy and Studies (GEE) and supported by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). This award aims to recognize scientific works/articles that contribute to greater knowledge and evidence of public and private investment in science and R&D, on the economic and social development of the country, the competitiveness of companies, technology-based entrepreneurship, the internationalization of the scientific and technological system, or the response to societal challenges.

The total prize money is €12,000 (twelve thousand euros) and will be divided among the four (4) best articles submitted to Call.

This is the 10th edition of the GEE Call for Papers initiative, whose objectives are to promote knowledge and research on the Impact of Science in Portugal and to serve as a forum for discussing public policy solutions in this area.

The deadline for submitting preliminary versions of articles is February 28, 2023, and for those that are pre-selected, final versions must be submitted by May 15, 2023.

Accepted articles are subject to an evaluation process by the Scientific Committee, composed of Anabela Marques dos Santos (JRC, European Commission), António Bob Santos (Foundation for Science and Technology), António Braz Costa (CITEVE), Joana Almodovar (GEE, Ministry of Economy and Sea), Joana Costa (University of Aveiro), José Carlos Caldeira (INESC-TEC), and Vítor Corado Simões (ISEG, University of Lisbon).

This Call "Impact of Science on the Economy and Society in Portugal" Award is part of the GEE's mission to encourage the production of original scientific articles on the Portuguese economy, on structural topics that are relevant to the various phases of public policy, with a preference for the use of empirical data. The relevance of the Awards and their theme also fits in with the main missions of the FCT: to continuously promote the advancement of scientific and technological knowledge in Portugal, to achieve the highest international standards of quality and competitiveness in all scientific and technological fields, and to encourage its dissemination and contribution to society and the productive fabric.
