CMU-Portugal 2026 Mobility Initiatives: “Visiting Faculty and Researchers” and “Visiting Students” Programs

Calls are now open Calls the 2026 edition of the CMU-Portugal Mobility Initiatives, under the CMU-Portugal Program, which is supported by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). The application deadline is May 14, 2026.

These initiatives include the“Visiting Professors and Researchers”Program and the “Visiting Students”Program, which promote mobility and scientific cooperation with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in Pittsburgh in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

The CMU-Portugal Visiting Faculty and Researchers Program will support up to eight fellows for short-term stays at CMU (ranging from two weeks to two months), with the aim of fostering collaboration in research, education, and ICT innovation, as well as exposure to the academic culture and best practices of this internationally renowned university. Applicants must be Portuguese citizens or foreign nationals with permanent residence in Portugal who hold a doctoral degree at the time of application and are affiliated with a Portuguese higher education institution or a research laboratory.

In turn, the CMU-Portugal Visiting Student Program will support up to 12 master’s students in ICT-related fields, providing them with the opportunity to conduct research at CMU for a short period (ranging from two weeks to two months). During their stay, students are mentored by CMU faculty and researchers and have direct contact with its academic and scientific ecosystem. Applicants must be Portuguese citizens or foreign nationals with permanent residency in Portugal.

Since their inception, these mobility initiatives have consistently contributed to strengthening Portuguese-American scientific cooperation under the CMU-Portugal Program.
