The MarinERA network is a project funded by the ERA-Net mechanism of the EU's 6th Framework Program (2004-2008). MarinERA is a partnership of 13 of the leading funding agencies for R&D in Marine Science and Technology in Europe (coordinated by IFREMER and managed by the Marine Board -ESF). In addition, a variety of Observers (networks, funding agencies, ministries, and other ERA-Nets) are associated with this project. The main objectives of the MarinERA project are:

Promote cooperation between R&D funding agencies in CTM in the European Union through effective and efficient cost/benefit management of existing resources (human resources, specialized infrastructure, and financial resources).

Contribute to the development of a European Marine Research Policy by identifying future challenges.

Promote a platform for understanding to share specialized resources for studying priority issues that cannot be addressed individually by EU member countries.

Plan the joint launch of R&D programs in Marine Science and Technology.
