The MarinERA network is a project funded by the ERA-Net mechanism of EU FP6 (2004-2008). MarinERA is a partnership of 13 of the main funding agencies for R&D in Marine Science and Technology in Europe (coordinated by IFREMER and managed by the Marine Board -ESF). As a complement, a variety of Observers (networks, funding agencies, ministries and other ERA-Net) are associated with this project. The main objectives of the MarinERA project are:

Promote cooperation between R&D funding agencies in the European Union, through effective and efficient cost/benefit management of existing resources (human resources, specialized infrastructures and financial resources).

Contribute to the development of a European Marine Research Policy, identifying future challenges.

Promote a platform of understanding for the sharing of specialized resources for the study of priority issues that cannot be supported individually by EU member countries.

Plan the joint opening of R&D programs in Marine Science and Technology.
