The opening notices for the two Calls R&D Projects in all Scientific Domains are now available: scientific research and technological development projects (IC&DT) and exploratory projects (PeX). With an overall budget of 140 million euros and expected support for more than 880 research projects, applications for the two Calls are open until February 16, 2024 and adopt, for the first time, the simplified cost methodology.

Call of scientific research and technological development (IC&DT) projects in all scientific fields - 2023
This
Call will support a universe of more than 480 projects with a duration of up to 36 months and maximum funding of 250,000 euros per project. Compared to the Call of projects launched in 2022, the budget allocation increases from 55 to 120 million euros in 2023 (118% more), representing a commitment to strengthening this type of project. This Call is funded by FCT via the State Budget, and co-financed through European funds by COMPETE 2030 and the Regional Operational Programs for the North, Centre, Lisbon, Alentejo and Algarve, promoting synergies between various sources of funding for national scientific research. Applications must be submitted by February 16, 2024 using the form to be made available by the Agency for Development and Cohesion (ADC) and COMPETE 2030 at https://balcaofundosue.pt. More information here.

Call for exploratory projects in all scientific fields - 2023
The aim is to support projects lasting 18 months and with maximum funding of 50,000 euros per project. The budget allocation is 20 million euros (with exclusively national funds, provided by FCT) to support a universe of more than 400 projects. Applications must be submitted on a specific form, available from today on the
myFCT platform, by 5pm on February 16, 2024 (mainland Portugal time). More information here.

It is planned to open Calls for projects in all scientific fields in 2024.

  • Both Calls adopt a narrative CV system for a more comprehensive and effective assessment of the diverse backgrounds of the researchers responsible for the applications, thus promoting more qualitative, robust and integrated assessment methodologies.
  • The simplification of administrative procedures after funding has been awarded will be done through a lump sum model for exploratory projects and unit costs for IC&DT projects.
  • These Calls also mark the first time that computing time on FCT's new supercomputers(Deucalion and MareNostrum 5) has been allocated to projects selected for funding, without requiring an additional scientific assessment. To do this, all you have to do is flag up the need for advanced computing resources and/or research data repositories in your application.
