Launch of two Calls proposals to fund R&D projects in all scientific fields

The Opening Notices for Calls two Calls R&D Projects in all Scientific Fields are now available: scientific research and technological development projects (IC&DT) and exploratory projects (PeX). With a total budget of €140 million and support expected for more than 880 research projects, applications for Calls two Calls open until February 16, 2024, and, for the first time, adopt the simplified cost methodology.

Call scientific research and technological development (IC&DT) projects in all scientific fields – 2023
This Call support a total of more than 480 projects lasting up to 36 months and with maximum funding of €250,000 per project. Compared to Call projects launched in 2022, the budget allocation increases from €55 million to €120 million in 2023 (an increase of 118%), representing a commitment to strengthening this type of project. This Call funded by FCT via the State Budget and co-financed by European funds through COMPETE 2030 and the Regional Operational Programs of the North, Center, Lisbon, Alentejo, and Algarve, promoting synergies between various sources of funding for national scientific research. Call exploratory projects in all scientific fields – 2023
The aim is to support projects lasting 18 months with a maximum funding of €50,000 per project. The budget allocation is €20 million (with exclusively national funds, provided by the FCT) to support a total of more than 400 projects. Applications must be submitted using the appropriate form, available from today on the myFCT platform, by 5 p.m. on February 16, 2024 (Mainland Portugal time). More information here.

Calls projects in all scientific fields are expected to open in 2024.

• Both Calls a narrative CV system for a more comprehensive and effective assessment of the diversity of the backgrounds of the researchers responsible for the applications, thus promoting more qualitative, robust, and integrated assessment methodologies.
• The simplification of administrative procedures after the allocation of funding will be achieved through a model of lump sums for exploratory projects and unit costs for IC&DT projects.
• These Calls also Calls the first time that computing time on FCT's new supercomputers (Deucalion and MareNostrum 5) has been allocated to projects selected for funding, without requiring additional scientific evaluation. To qualify, applicants need only indicate their need for advanced computing resources and/or research data repositories in their application.
