3rd Edition of NASA Internships

Applications are now open for the third edition of Call Studentships for Internships at NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration of the USA). Up to six Studentships will be awarded, and applications can be submitted until January 21.

The program is carried out under an agreement signed in 2016 between FCT, the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Higher Education (MCTES), and NASA, which allowed Portugal to join the US space agency's International Internship Program. Portuguese students who are pursuing a PhD or master's degree in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics are eligible to apply. The internship opportunities for this edition include 22 NASA projects, from which applicants can choose the one or ones they wish to apply for.

Twelve students participated in the first two editions of the internships. One of these students, Milton Cordeiro, who participated in the first edition in 2017 while completing his PhD in Biotechnology at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, received an invitation from NASA at the end of his internship to continue his collaboration as a guest researcher at the agency. He is currently continuing the development of a method for producing biosensors for monitoring astronauts' heart activity in space, which he began during his internship.
